CLASS& LAB PROJECTS
For the research project for the OCT1220Y course of Graduate Research, my research partner and I presented our year-long qualitative study findings at the Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy 2021 Research Day. The research project is titled "Defining Successful Transitions from Paediatric to Adult Chronic Pain Care: A Descriptive Qualitative Study of Perspectives of Young Adults Living with Chronic Pain".
For the final project of the OCT1100H course in Applied Skills and Technology: Human Factors and Design in Occupational Therapy, I worked with 4 student peers on developing an accessible mobile application called Barrier Free 6.
This application sources information about the accessibility of restaurants in Toronto directly from restaurant owners for people with disabilities. Business owners provide accessibility information about concerns like parking, washrooms, and dining spaces which can directly be accessed by people with disabilities. The purpose of this application is to increase the information about the accessibility of business to people with disabilities, to increase their participation in activities of daily living and leisure activity, and enable them to engage independently with their social and physical environments.
This was a series of two orthotic labs as part of the OCT 1262Y course on Enabling Occupation with Adults II. As part of the labs, we watched videos on the considerations for various types of splints, splinting materials, as well as demonstrations of steps in making four splints. Then we met for the in-person lab, where I engaged in hands-on practice and fabricated 1 static splint (CMC-MCP Stabilizing Orthosis). As lab 2 was cancelled due to social isolation restrictions following the Covid-19 pandemic, I engaged in fabricating 2 more static splints (D4-D5 MCP Extension Blocking & Volar Finger MCP Flexion-Blocking Orthosis for Trigger Finger) independently. After fabricating the orthoses, I completed a self-evaluation on my work process which I submitted to my course instructor.
